I've got some more issues of my Hungarian zine (Egészségedré! is Hungarian for cheers/bless you - it's also possible to turn it into to your arse by swapping the sz and s round!) about the time I spent living in Budapest. This one was really popular at the London Zine Symposium! Click on the picture to go to my Etsy shop.

The way my distro is set up right now, a person will click the "add to cart" button under each zine they want to buy. Then, I'll get the payment in my paypal account, calculate the shipping, then send a person a money request to cover the shipping. I do it that way, because shipping for each zine depends on how many zines a person orders at once, and where they live. It's explained on a page on my site. It's worked fine for the most part. Except for one order from 2 weeks ago, where I got somebody's order and payment, so I sent them a $4 money request to cover shipping, and I never got the payment. The person's not reponding to emails, so what should I do? Just wait and see if the person sends the money? Send the package anyway with a note asking for the $4?

May. 20th, 2008 06:38 pm feelers for comps

I've got a bunch of random comp zines working around in my head, and have for awhile. But for good reasons (that aren't really public blog material) I haven't really had much time/energy/money to flesh them out. If you'd be interested in any of the following, leave me a comment or send me an email (piratesarah at gmail dot com).

Hometown Proud - thoughts on home. Stories, descriptions, pictures, photography about your memories and concepts of the idea of home. Your hometown, or the the first place that felt like you could make a life there.

Princess Who - reinventing and redefining women in fairy tales. What would happen if Show White demanded equal wages from the dwarves or Cinderella was queer? This is a great chance to reclaim female archetypes in a more positive light.

Coming Clean - the coming out stories of queer/trans folks.

Mental Wealth - Dealing with "mental illness," exploring alternatives to traditional medicine, finding a safe outlet for your thoughts and feelings. How have these things affected you? How do you cope with stress?

(Crossposted around like crazy. Sorry!)

Summer Girl
No. 3 (The Winter Issue)
$3/22 pages/Quarter size
by Maria

Maria's collection of stories and memories have become a wonderful issue of Summer Girl. She writes about going vegan, organizing her family history, and lessons learned from an art class that she took. Maria shares her thoughts regarding the current relationship she has with her brother, her enjoyable trip to Pittsburgh, her cat named Holly and some crafty talk as well.

From the intro, "The cover of this zine celebrates he idea of home & it suits me. Like Beth in Little Women, I love being home. I love my house, my gardens, & all the wonderful & fun things associated with home, including cooking, cleaning & entertaining."

May. 19th, 2008 11:16 pm Zine and Distro

 Hey guys!

So we're getting this zine together and we just got some band stuff in to distro from Submarine Screendoor and Fruit Punch. I'm really excited that things are actually progressing and people are actually participating.

Our zine is called HANgOVER. We're from the town of Hanover... hence the name.

Anyway, here's what we'll be putting in so far:

-Opinion blogs/rants
-Scene reports
-Alternative spirituality
-DIY stuff
-Recipes
-Question & Answer
-Features of the month
-Comics
-Music Reviews
-Horror movie reviews
-Band interviews

I'm also working on an animal rescue and alternative health section for it.

The reason I'm actually posting this is because we need some help! We need bands to interview and cd's to review. Comics will only come around if people send them in. All will be excepted. Recipes, DIY stuff, opinion writings... all kinds of shit. If you want to say it, send it in!

For the distro, if you're in a band or you just make anything on your own (and we mean anything) we'd love to distro your stuff.  We're taking in anything from band merch to cloth pads to clothes to stationary.

As you have read, we don't really have a theme. We're a pretty varied group of individuals so it was hard to try to make a themed zine.

Anyway, if there are any questions e-mail me at ssheely113@hotmail.com or just message me on here!

And if you'd like to send me your stuff, e-mail me and I'll send you my P.O. Box number.

Thanks!

Shawna Palsy

New cartoon up...

My silly little book is still on pre-sale on Amazon.

On a sad note, an old friend Rory Root passed away. He ran the Comic Relief comic shop. I used to buy comics from him when I was a kid. He pushed Too Much Coffee Man when I was trying to sell it as a photocopied mini-comic. It still hasn't sunk in that he's gone.

May. 18th, 2008 05:09 pm Obama

I saw Obama talk today. My adult experiences with past Presidents has made me so cynical that I don't want to like him. I'm pretty sure that I'll end up disappointed. Despite myself, it was exciting to see our future President.

And I've always wanted a picture of me with the president.

His talk was short and sweet, maybe because he's exhausted. He spoke well of Clinton and condemned the war. He said he'd push for education. Free college for people who will go do a year or two of civil service work post-graduation. Health care and housing for all. Ok. I'm sold. I like to think that kid is whispering something insightful and profound to his dad but I suspect he had to pee.

May. 18th, 2008 04:18 pm paper trail distro may news

"doris" #25 & "HPV" are the most recent additions to the paper trail distro catalogue! "doris" #25 is the continuation of cindy's encyclopedia series, in which she answers questions about anarchism, focusing on the important things, her memories of her mom, quitting drinking, & more. "HPV" is an incredibly well-researched resource that ought to answer just about all your questions about HPV, the most common STI around. there are a few more new zines coming in soon, & possibly a few non-zine items too.

paper trail distro focuses on personal zines with radical or d.i.y. emphases. i have all kinds of different zines on bikes, parenting, reproductive health, mental health, traveling, death, abuse, addiction, queer & trans issues, feminism, urban sustainability, & a lot more. the catalogue is about 150 zines strong, & i'm always looking for new stuff, so feel free to send your zine in for consideration to: 14 hyde park ave. #1a, jamaica plain ma 02130.
